1 Timothy 2:7-8

1 Timothy 2:7-8

For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. 8Therefore I want

Paul is calling on his authority as an apostle as he rights these commands to the churches as is seen by the word “Therefore” (which refers to him saying he is an apostle). When Paul says in this passage “I want”, he is calling on his authority as an apostle. This authority when invoked is not to be taken lightly. Later he gives the reason for his command as God’s intention in creating man first and then woman. He also appeals to the fall of man. In 1 Corinthians, he makes it clear that it is the practice in all churches and he also says the command comes from scripture and from the Lord. Also Paul wrote these words under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, these words are scripture and are intended by God to be revered as scripture. Therefore these scriptures must be obeyed based on the authority of Paul as an apostle, based on the intention of God in creation, based on the Old Testament Scriptures, based on the command of the Lord, based on these words being inspired by the Holy Spirit, and based on these words being scriptures themselves. These passages are clearly the command of God. We have a choice to either trust in the wisdom of God’s authority or to trust in our own. I for one think the authority of God and His wisdom outweighs my own.
