1 Corinthians 11:16
16But if one is inclined to be contentious, we have no other practice, nor have the churches of God.
Paul is saying that this command and practice is to be obeyed in all the churches, Paul will not argue the issue, it a firm command. Must this command must obeyed even, today? How is it to be obeyed, today?

13Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him, 15but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her? For her hair is given to her for a covering.
- This verse I don’t quite understand, yet. Samson had long hair, how does this apply here? What about the Nazarite vow which was both for women and men and involved shaving the hair and then growing it out long? Why is the subject of covering not discussed elsewhere, of course it was probably mostly just understood throughout history, so there may have been no need? These questions are not enough to negate this in themselves, we should honestly look at whether or not a woman should wear a covering, and a thorough study of this needs to be done.

38But if anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized.
I am not quite sure of the meaning of this. In the Greek the word "recognize" means, 1) to be ignorant, not to know 2) not to understand, unknown 3) to err or sin through mistake, to be wrong.
- How do the tenses affect the meaning? If it is a play on words which is something Paul does at times, then the NASB translation may be translated well. And the meaning would be that if anyone does not recognize these things to be true, let them not be recognized in the assemble and allowed to speak or let them not be recognized as a prophet, or spiritual, or as an authority on the scriptures and doctrine. This would have wide implications on the church, today, as many in authority do not recognize these scriptures.

Paul further confirms what he has written by saying that it is the Lord’s command.

37If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize
If wisdom does truly abide, whether the person is a prophet or spiritual, they will confirm these words written by the apostle Paul and attest to the truth of them. This is also saying that even if some one is spiritual and thinks that this should be disobeyed because of some "revelation", it is not a revelation from God. Women may ask, what do they do if they feel God wants them to teach or have authority over man? Paul would say that if these women were truly spiritual they would obey God and not teach or have authority over man. If they are being obedient to the Holy Spirit then they would confirm the goodness of these commands.
